St Mary’s Shrine Sunday Bulletin 14 Aug 22

THANK YOU wholeheartedly to all who helped make Fr Evans’ First Mass a great SUCCESS, through cleaning, singing, arranging flowers, serving Mass, cooking for hundreds, preparing the garden, fetching seminarians… and praying. Once back from summer apostolates,  Fr Evans will send his personal thanks, especially for your generous gift to him through last Sunday’s second collection. He will start his ministry in Reading and Bedford next month.

All must dress modestly in church out of reverence for God and of respect for fellow-worshippers. Ladies are

encouraged to wear a veil or mantilla. Tops must cover bodies down to elbows and skirts at least below knees. No shorts, no t-shirts, no leggings. In addition, on Sundays and feasts Sunday best should be worn by all: i.e. suits or jackets and ties for gentlemen, dresses for ladies. Thank you.

We love having young children around in church and we thank parents for inculcating their little ones the respect owed to the House of God, and to secure recollection for fellow-worshippers. Parents are welcome to give exuberant children a break in the Narthex or outdoors if needed, especially during the Canon of the Mass and homily.

To receive Holy Communion: one must be a Catholic, in the state of grace, one-hour fasting at least. In the traditional liturgy, Holy Communion is received kneeling (unless unable to) and always on the tongue. Thank you in advance. Kindly switch OFF your mobile phone before you enter the church.

Safeguarding: If you have concerns about children or vulnerable adults, please contact the Archdiocesan Safeguarding Department: m.robson@rcaol.org.uk or 0151 522 1013, or speak with Clare Fraser, St Mary’s Safeguarding Officer. Thank you for your awareness.

AUGUST RECESS: please save non urgent requests for September, since several priests are away on ministry or vacation. No Men’s nor Ladies’ group.

500 weekly visits to St Mary’s Shrine Church.

100 children and young adults at FSSP summer camps. Thank God, after the interruption caused by Covid regulations, we were able to resume our various summer apostolates to the younger generation. Our priests and seminarians have been busy preparing and running splendid Catholic time off for one hundred in: two summer camps in Macclesfield, Juventutem weekend in Stonyhurst, and a 2CV camp in Wales. We thank the lay people who assisted us in making these events a success.

LMS annual pilgrimage to Walsingham 25-28 Aug: walk 59 miles from Ely to Walsingham with the Traditional Mass, the Rosary, traditional devotions, chants, hymns and songs, to do honour to Our Lady of Walsingham and to pray for the conversion of England; with Fr Gwilym Evans, FSSP. BOOK by 22nd August on https://lms.org.uk/walsingham2022.

New throne for Eucharistic adoration: thanks to benefactors, a large throne with canopy for the monstrance was made and leaf-gilded, with a red backdrop. It spectacularly enhances our time of adoration. Come and adore the Eucharistic Lord!
