Holy Mass intentions 14-20 September 2025

New Chaplaincy year!
Our sister congregations in Bedford and Chesham Bois are blessed with many families, young children, couples and single people of various ages. How can we grow further in wisdom, and numbers? How can we best serve the needs of all, and also reach out to share the Good News of Salvation with as many people as possible? It starts with doing well, or even better, what is the backbone of Catholic life: Sunday Masses, weekday Masses, confessions, sacramental preparation, ongoing formation for adults, convert’s instruction. Special events can be added.

In Bedford it seems that the separate monthly groups for ladies and for gentlemen may work better if combined as is the case in Chesham where between 30 and 40 adults attend. Let us know what day and time in the week you are more likely to attend in Bedford (and whether you would attend alone or with your spouse): email bedford@fssp.org. These monthly talks for any adults will begin in Chesham and Bedford in October.

The First Saturday Mass and Marian devotion attract about 80 adults and children. Since OLOR’s parish room cannot fit a large crowd, Willington Hall (Church Rd, Willington Village, Bedford, MK44 3PY) has been booked for all those who wish to gather from 12:30pm.

Note the Catholic Men UK’s Weekend at nearby Buckden Towers on 14-16 Nov with Fr de Malleray. Co-organised by our Bedford parishioner Samuel. Visit actionfollowsbeing.uk.

We are delighted that the scout, guide, cubs and wolvet groups are building up nicely with even more exciting activities planned this year. We thank you the parents for their dedication. Email simon_lubbock@hotmail.com for info.

Register interest and suggest dates for the monthly trek for single young adults 18-35.

Any single adults 18-35 are welcome to the monthly Juventutem London group led by Fr de Malleray: 19 Sept, 17 Oct, 7 Nov, 5 Dec at St Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, 96 North Side, London SW18 2QU: 6pm Confessions, 7pm Sung Mass with homily, 8pm social with Q&As. No booking needed: just turn up. Bring friends along.

Last Thursday the book club group of the Catenians in Bedford invited Fr de Malleray for a presentation of his novel Vermeer’s Angel. The author was impressed by the many questions about the plot and characters. A memorable tea & cakes followed…

What a pleasant trip across Normandy we have had during the first week of September! Nearly 80 adults and children took part, mostly Chaplaincy parishioners. We saw Mont St Michel, Avranches, Lisieux, Alençon (with holy Mass at the traditional Carmel, followed by a meeting with Mother Prioress – and with Carmel cat “Carmelito”), Caen, Lassay, and more.

Our teenagers are preparing a full report! Well done Emma John and thank you for having put together such an amazing trip. Some went to St Malo, and some drove further south after to Puy du Fou, the inspiring Catholic theme park.
Question: where to next?

Well done all of us who made it to the March for Life in London on Sat 6th September.

Over 10,000 people marched. What a splendid witness to the sacredness of human life! Thank you to those who prayed in Eucharistic adoration at our church that same day for the same pro-life intentions.
What to do next? Please visit https://www.marchforlife.co.uk/ for pictures and donations. Also, please sign the petition https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/738764. A Catholic helpline for spouses in difficulty: retrouvaille.org.uk.
According to Retrouvaille, the four stages of marriage are: romance, disillusionment, misery, and awakening.
Unfortunately, due to the high divorce rate, many couples never reach the fourth Stage of Awakening.
The primary goal is to help couples who live in the disappointment and pain of marriage problems.
The team gives a series of presentations, introducing practical tools for improving communication.
