The Santa Marija Convoy and Malta – 75 years ago today

On the Feast of the Assumption, 1942, the SS Ohio limped into Valletta’s Grand Harbour, carrying the fuel needed to save Malta from surrendering to the Nazis. The full story of Operation Pedestal is below, courtesy of Charles Debono and published in thebTimes of Malta here.   Salve Regina / Sliema Ghalik, Sultana! As Malta edged inevitably towards starvation and surrender in the summer of 1942, a major naval undertaking was being put in train to enable Malta to survive. […]

The Assumption of Our Lady – 15th August

A reminder that Low Mass is on Tuesday 15th August, at 7:30pm at Christ the King Church, Bedford MK42 0SP. All are welcome! Below is a reflection from Blessed John Henry Newman: Our Lady … died in private. It became Him who died for the world, to die in the world’s sight; it became the Great Sacrifice to be lifted up on high, as a light that could not be hid. But she, the lily of Eden, who had always […]

Transfiguration Mass this Sunday

This Sunday’s Mass coincides with the Feast  of the Transfiguration, one of the Luminous Mysteries. Peter’s confession shown to lead up to the Transfiguration The Gospel lesson, dearly-beloved, which has reached the inner hearing of our minds through our bodily ears, calls us to the understanding of a great mystery, to which we shall by the help of God’s grace the better attain, […]

This weekend – FSSP

We are extremely grateful to the FSSP for saying Mass three times in July while our regular priests are away. The first of these Sundays is this weekend, 9 July, when Fr Goddard will visit us. The FSSP are enjoying plenty of vocations and ordinations – most recently, two priests were ordained in Warrington – stunning pictures here : http://catholicherald.co.uk/news/2017/06/20/pictures-extraordinary-form-ordinations-take-place-in-england-for-first-time-in-decades/

Corpus Christi

thumbnail of GIFT AID DECLARATION FORM 2016

It was a pleasure to welcome back Fr Anton Webb as our celebrant for Corpus Christi on the evening of 15 June. By co-incidence, he was the celebrant at the Corpus Christ Mass in 2016. He has a wonderful singing voice which supplemented this Sung Mass. In the choir loft was Bedford Choral Society, the singers of whom were joining us for the second time, and also Fr Gabriel Diaz, who himself has celebrated Mass many times at Christ […]

Sunday within the Octave of Ascension

What a wonderful poem here: http://aclerkofoxford.blogspot.co.uk/2017/05/highest-of-all-kings.html?m=1 And some very pertinent comments about the modern lack of imagination from some priests. FR Diaz, though, is made of different stuff, and gave a lovely sermon about this feast.
