Priory Campaign Update: pre-planning applications

At long last, our pre-planning applications for Community Use of the building(s) received a favourable response from Warrington Borough Council on Friday.

Although this approval is only in principle (subject to full planning application being granted once we decide which building we can afford), it will guide the purchase decision we must make imminently, based on various considerations, including the amount of money presently raised and the need for a stable income for the upkeep of the new building.

Please ask Our Lady of Lourdes (feast Monday) for more space for our activities, and for last-minute benefactors to support the Priory Campaign.

Four Last Things Day: any 18-35 welcome on 17 Nov.

Juventutem London Day of Recollection

with Fr Armand de Malleray FSSP.

Saturday, 17 November 2018 11:00-17:00

St Mary Moorfields, 4-5 Eldon Street, EC2M 7LS London

Image may contain: 2 people

November focuses on the afterlife. On that month, Catholics celebrate the saints in heaven (1st Nov); and intercede for the Holy Souls in Purgatory (2nd Nov). On 11th Nov in Europe, we commemorate the end of the First World War, when victims died on an unprecedented scale. In England, by special indult, a Holy Mass of Requiem is even allowed on a Sunday to pray for those who died in battle. Those various motives are articulated in the doctrine of The Four Last Things: death, judgment, hell and heaven (the latter includes purgatory as its accidental antechamber). Comprising many fundamental dogmas, The Four Last Things is a most salutary doctrine.

During this recollection, Fr de Malleray will address questions such as: Why do we die? Can we change our minds after death? Is God bound to give us a last chance? If hell exists, is it empty? Does it last forever? Can we help souls in purgatory? Are all saints in heaven equal? And many more… During a convivial lunch in the church basement, we will be able to discuss informally these questions.

We welcome any young adults and young professionals 18-35 to attend this day of recollection

· 11am-12noon conference (40 mins talk + Q&As);
· 12noon-1pm Holy Mass;
· 1pm-2pm Lunch;
· 2pm-3pm Conference (40 mins talk + Q&As);
· 3pm-4pm Rosary and Tea;
· 4pm-5pm third conference (40 mins talk + Q&As) and departure.

PRIORY CAMPAIGN: More Prayers Needed!

Official Campaign page here.

We are so DEEPLY GRATEFUL to all of you from all over the UK and abroad for the £541,256.36 raised since 18 July.

In addition, there is about £50,000.00 of Gift Aid: but this money will be sent to us by HM Revenue too late for purchase: it can only be used for conversion work later on. Put simply then, we are still short of £208,743.64 to buy even only ONE of the two buildings.
Please pray that the vendor will let us buy even part of one building for a just price. We hope to reach an agreement this week, please God.

Should you know of anyone willing to purchase space in the adjacent buildings via the FSSP, please put them in touch with us: malleray@fssp.org. The condition is to be able to transfer at least £83,300.00 to a designated bank account with the intention of becoming owner of at least one floor of the building (i.e. for 79.31 square meters, or 853 square feet, plus parking space), which could either remain an office, or later be turned into a flat, as the new owner preferred.

What happen if – worst case scenario – we are prevented from buying the building(s) soon? Then we will use your donation to extend and improve significantly our current presbytery for pastoral use and priests’ living quarters. Thank you wholeheartedly for your generosity!

You may now send your donations, making the cheque or bank transfer payable to ‘FSSP ENGLAND’ (writing ‘Priory Campaign’ on the back of your cheque or in the bank transfer reference).
Account Name: FSSP England • Account number: 02027225 • Sort code 30-93-04 • Lloyds Bank, Palmerston Road Branch • Gift Aid number on request.

Alternatively: use our PayPal button here https://fssp.co.uk/donate/, typing ‘Priory Campaign’ as reference.

VOCATION NEWS: 11 FSSP UK PRIESTS IN 16 YEARS

We have currently six young men from England & Wales in formation at our two international seminaries. Three of our deacons from England were ordained priests at St Mary’s Warrington in the past two years by Archbishop McMahon, OP of Liverpool. Those were the first EF priestly ordinations by a diocesan bishop in England in fifty years.

Please pray for Samuel and Miklos, our two UK vocations beginning their Second Year at our two seminaries. They have completed their First Year and were incorporated into our Fraternity on Saturday 20th October 2018. Please pray for John, from the South of England, who begun formation in Denton last September (2018).

Please pray for them (www.fssp.org/en/help-us/confraternity-of-saint-peter/) and for many more to enter the lists!

In total, 39 young men were admitted into our two seminaries this autumn. More applied but were not accepted.

24 First Year seminarians entered Wigratzbad this month, our European seminary in Bavaria, including: 9 French, 4 Portuguese, 3 Canadians and 1 Colombian in the French-speaking Section; and 2 Germans, 1 Austrian, 1 Hungarian, 1 Icelander, 1 Pole and 1 Swiss in the German-speaking Section.

There are presently 76 seminarians in Wigratzbad, of 19 nationalities.

Our American seminary in Nebraska, Our Lady of Guadalupe, admitted 15 First Year seminarians, including 12 Americans, 2 Canadians and 1 English. In Years 6 to 7 at OLGS, in addition to many Americans and Canadians, we also have seminarians from New Zealand, 2 from India (Goa), 1 from The Phillipines, 1 from Singapore, some from Mexico and from Venezuela.

Lastly, please pray for our more senior UK seminarians Gwilym, Emmanuel and Matthew. With Samuel, Miklos and John, we currently have 6 UK vocations in formation.

We had 19 new priests ordained worldwide in 2018, and 18 ordained in 2017.

We give thanks for 1 new priest from the UK ordained every year over the past 4 years, and more generally for 11 of them ordained over the past 16 years: Fr Konrad Loewenstein in 2002; Fr Brendan Gerard in 2006; Frs Matthew Goddard and William Barker in 2009; Fr Simon Harkins in 2010; Fr Matthew McCarthy in 2011; Fr Ian Verrier in 2015; Fr James Mawdsley in 2016; Frs Alex Stewart and Krzysztof Sanetra in 2017; Fr Seth Phipps last 9th June.

Please pray for us. We assure you of our prayer.

O Lord, grant us many holy priests!

Please pray for Samuel and Miklos, our two UK vocations beginning their Second Year at our two seminaries. They have completed their First Year and will be incorporated into our Fraternity tomorrow, Saturday 20th October.

Please also pray for Ciall, another Irish-English vocation, who would have been with them but had to leave seminary for health reasons last June after a successful First Year.

Tomorrow, 25 young men altogether will receive First Tonsure and the cassock from the bishops, both in Wigratzbad, Bavaria, and in Denton, Nebraska.

Please pray for them (www.fssp.org/en/help-us/confraternity-of-saint-peter/) and for many more to enter the lists!

The Day After Tomorrow

Priory Campaign: last 2 days – please pray for success!

THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW…

Dear Friends,
We raised (or were pledged) £526,540.00 since 18 July, but…
we are still short of £223,460.00 to buy even only one of the two buildings – in 2 days…

Please pray the rosary, offer up prayers and sacrifices, attend Holy Mass, that if it God’s Holy Will and Our Lady’s, they may inspire all those involved in this undertaking to bring it to fruition:
vendor, lawyers, trustees, potential benefactors, souls of the living as well as holy souls of the deceased from Warrington and nationwide to be helped by our ministry through the new buildings.

Join our NOVENA of HOLY MASSES, started last Tuesday, ending tomorrow, Wed. 17 October.

Please do forward the link to the Campaign webpage to your friends and acquaintances: https://fssp.co.uk/warri…/priory-campaign-18-july-18-oct-18/.

Thank you very much for your interest and support.
