PRIORY CAMPAIGN: new VIDEO on our website and Facebook page!

See what we have to say about Catholic education, ordinations, liturgical beauty, assistance to families and more! A great thank you to Stefano Mazzeo who made the video!

Please forward the link to your friends and acquaintances: we have less than a month left to raise the remaining GBP1.2m…

Nearly 1/3 pledged!

Please continue to pray and speak to your friends and acquaintances about this project. We mean it. Look what just happened… We asked again people to pray last Sunday. Two days later, we got an email from someone who reads our magazine and had heard about our Campaign.

He had spoken to someone who did not know us, and that person, hearing about it, decided to donate £200,000.00. Imagine the difference it makes to our Campaign, jumping from £327,475.00 to £527,475.00. See the power of prayer – and of sharing the information even with people you think might not be interested. To that end, please forward the link to our official page below, with all updates: https://fssp.co.uk/warrington/priory-campaign-18-july-18-oct-18/. And God bless you.

Subject to the amount raised by 18th October and to obtaining the relevant authorisations according to the law, our Fraternity will be able to buy and convert for pastoral use part or all of the two buildings.

You may now send your donations, making the cheque or bank transfer payable to ‘FSSP ENGLAND’ (writing ‘Priory Campaign’ on the back of your cheque or in the bank transfer reference).

Account Name: FSSP England • Account number: 02027225 • Sort code 30-93-04 • Lloyds Bank, Palmerston Road Branch • Gift Aid number on request.

Visit our dedicated Campaign webpage for updates: https://fssp.co.uk/warrington/priory-campaign-18-july-18-oct-18/.

Welcome to Fr Andrew Jolly, a retired priest from Wigan, who will offer a votive Mass here on Wednesday, 12:10pm, on the occasion of his 20th ordination anniversary. Ad multos annos!

RIP: Fr Peter Lessiter, a veteran priest who travelled the country assisting families. Fr Lessiter came all the way from Devon to attend Fr Phipps’ ordination last June.

Pro-Life: Help fund appeal against anti-life buffer zone in Ealing: uk.gofundme.com >  alinalegalfund.

Fr de Malleray thanks you for your prayers last week as he was on yearly retreat at the FSSP motherhouse in Bavaria. He prayed for the intentions of all of St Mary’s community.

Prayer for Vocations: How to make your prayer for vocations even more effective? Ask Eileen from the West Midlands, Peter from Hampshire, Siobhan from London and Matthew from Oxfordshire – who were enrolled in our 6000-strong international prayer network, the Confraternity of St Peter, on the feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, last 22 August. As they did, visit www.fssp.org/en/help-us/confraternity-of-saint-peter/.

UK Vocations: Please pray for John, from the South of England, who has safely arrived at our American seminary in Nebraska and will begin formation this week.

Mass intentions: all booked for several months ahead. However, we will endeavour to apply more intentions to private Masses (then mentioning the intentions on this bulletin) and to extra public Masses.

Introducing St Mary’s Choir School: Will meet every Thursday during term times 1pm-4.15pm/5pm. Lunch; Two lessons with Break; Eucharistic Benediction; Singing practice. With local parents and Shrine clergy. Contact A. Kahn: penketh.kahns@gmail.com.

Baronius hand missals: Another 30 copies have arrived! Please bring £37.00 to get yours. Note the huge discount, as Amazon’s best public price is £53.95.

Do write your name clearly inside and outside, since similar copies are used by nearly 70 members of our congregation.

Watch Holy Mass at St Mary’s daily on www.livemass.org. The Mass of the day can be watched for 24hrs and that of the Sunday for the entire week.

Reminder: To receive Holy Communion: to be a Catholic, in state of grace, one-hour fasting.

In the EF liturgy, Holy Communion is received kneeling (unless unable to) and always on the tongue. Thank you in advance.

ADOREMUS NATIONAL EUCHARISTIC CONGRESS this weekend in Liverpool!

Please pray for all pilgrims and for a deep Eucharistic renewal all across the UK. Fr de Malleray heard Confessions at the Congress yesterday. Thank you to Archbishop Mc Mahon OP who granted his imprimatur to Fr de Malleray’s book on the holy Eucharist (order details to be advertised shortly).

PRIORY CAMPAIGN: Benefactors in Hong Kong raised £81.00 through cakes sales, and pledged another £2,000.00.

Dedicated Campaign Page HERE.

PLEASE PRAY! If we want our Campaign to be successful, our best asset is PRAYER. We have 5 weeks to raise £1.5m to buy back the former Priory and St Mary’s School next door (total Net Internal Area of 1,383.19 Sq m or 14,891 Sq ft.) plus an extra £280k for estimated conversion of offices to pastoral use.

This is a unique opportunity to endow St Mary’s with the space we urgently need: parish hall, music room, clergy offices, and classrooms. In addition, a pro-life office, a publishing company, a catholic bookshop, a vestments-sewing workshop and accommodation for retreatants could be added.

Thank you so much to all of you who have contacted us over the past few weeks to pledge a donation. We have £326,475.00 pledged. Just as we expect this project to benefit souls even at a distance from Warrington, we seek support from far and wide, not only among our local congregation. In our times of growing adversity, the Priory Campaign aims at building a strongly Catholic community. Please speak to your friends about this historic opportunity, and pray for generous benefactors.

At this stage, we request pledges rather than actual donations. Kindly specify amount, currency and confirm bank transfer by 15 September. Our Campaign bank account details will be advertised by mid September.

MP ProLife Letter writing workshop.

Dear fellow parishioners,

Please join us after the two Holy Masses on Sunday the 2nd of September, to help flood Parliament with letters calling on MP’s to oppose abortion decriminalisation. This letter writing campaign has been launched by SPUC and your help is urgently needed as Pro – abortion MP’s are busy trying to bring forward more deadly proposals for legislation. (See Autumn issue: SPUC Pro Life Today).

The workshops will be held in the narthex and people will be on hand to help you write these letters.Templates will be available and suggestions on what to write will be offered, this should only take 10 – 15minutes. Just a few lines written to our MP’s, maybe enough to influence them and sway their opinion on these crucial issues. Don’t let them trivialise abortion like its a trip to the dentist and just another lifestyle choice.

Any G K Chesterton’s amongst us, please feel free to volunteer your skills at the workshops.

Do join us after Mass Saturday to celebrate the Nativity of Our Lady. Food, drink and a raffle will be held in the cloister area.

Thank you to the generous ladies who volunteer to bring cooked food to the Priory on occasion. Your clergy are delighted to discover that there is a life outside… the microwave!

St Mary’s Summer Sports Day

On Thursday 27 August, St Mary’s had our first ever summer sports day. Children competed in glorious weather in nearby Victoria Park, with events ranging from long-distance running to egg-and-spoon and three-legged races, and a three-way tug of war.
There was even a Fathers’ race, in which Fr Verrier and Fr Phipps didn’t quite distinguish themselves…

A few photos from the day can be seen on the Flickr page (thank you Joachim Kahn).

Many thanks to the organisers for a wonderful day. We hope this will be the first of many.

Please speak to your friends about this historic opportunity, and pray for generous benefactors.

At this stage, we request pledges rather than actual donations. Kindly specify amount, currency and confirm bank transfer by 15 September. Our Campaign bank account details will be advertised by early September.

Please pray for the World Gathering of Families in Dublin; for pilgrims to Walsingham including FSSP seminarians Gwilym and Gideon.

PRIORY CAMPAIGN: PLEASE PRAY!

New dedicated page HERE – with all updates, pictures and links.

If we want it to happen, our best asset is PRAYER. Prominent Catholics have lent their support to our project: Jacob Rees-Mogg MP; Archbishop Malcolm McMahon OP; Viscountess Ashbrook, of nearby Arley Hall; SPUC Chairman Robin Haig; Robert Colquhoun of 40 Days for Life; Dr Joseph Shaw, Chairman of the Latin Mass Society, and Maria Haynes, North West Coordinator of the National Association of Catholic Families.

We have two months to raise £1.5m to and buy back the former Priory and St Mary’s School next door (total Net Internal Area of 1,383.19 Sq m or 14,891 Sq ft.) plus an extra £280k for estimated conversion of offices to pastoral use.

We have £301,145.00 pledged.

Our Campaign bank account details will be advertised by early September.

Girls Summer Camp: great pics on our Flickr page:

www.flickr.com/photos/138056205@N08/albums
Led by 4 adult young women, with a priest and seminarians from the FSSP, 25 young girls are spending a wonderful week holiday near Macclesfield in the Peak District (see picture above). The week before, FSSP clerics accompanied 40 boys on another summer camp.
Altogether this year, the Priestly Fraternity of St Peter in the UK & Ireland will have organised memorable Catholic holidays for 70 (including 65 children and 5 young adults).

Watch this space and book early for next year!

Vocation discernment: Three young men from Surrey and Ireland spent three days last week at our Warrington Priory to discern God’s calling. They heard conferences by priests, served Holy Mass and had devotions and chats together. Please pray for them and for many more.

Prayer for Vocations: How to make your prayer for vocations even more effective? Ask Eileen from the West Midlands, Peter from Hampshire, Siobhan from London and Matthew from Oxfordshire – who will be enrolled in our 6000-strong international prayer network, the Confraternity of St Peter, on the feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, next 22 August. As they did, visit www.fssp.org/en/help-us/confraternity-of-saint-peter/.

UK Vocations: Congratulations to John, from the South of England, who was admitted to our American seminary and will begin formation next month.

Thank you to our seminarians Matthew, Emmanuel, Melvin, Gideon and Miklos who are helping us in various capacities over the summer – despite very basic accommodation due to clerical overpopulation at St Mary’s Priory (not a myth in this instance).

LMS pilgrimage to Walsingham 23-26 August: walk 59 miles from Ely to Walsingham with the Traditional Mass, the Rosary, traditional devotions, chants, hymns and songs, to do honour to Our Lady of Walsingham and to pray for the conversion of England. Info/bookings: lms.org.uk

Baronius hand missals: Another 30 copies have arrived! Please bring £37.00 to get yours. Do write your name clearly inside and outside, since similar copies are used by nearly 70 members of our congregation.

Pro-Life: As she explained to us when speaking at our pro-life fete at St Mary’s, Alina Dulgheriu is the young mum whose baby was saved through the witness of a pro-lifer outside the Ealing abortuary. In retaliation, the same facility managed to have a buffer zone enforced. Alina is challenging this for the sake of other mums in her situation. She lost her appeal case in the High Court against Ealing Council’s imposition of a buffer zone (PSPO). Freedoms are being taken away and she (Be here for me group) needs funding to pay for the legal expenses and the cost of mounting another appeal. People can donate via: https://uk.gofundme.com  alinalegalfund.

St Mary’s Warrington agreed to send £300.00 from our Pro life fund.

Watch Holy Mass at St Mary’s daily on www.livemass.org. The Mass of the day can be watched for 24hrs and that of the Sunday for the entire week.

Reminder: To receive Holy Communion: to be a Catholic, in state of grace, one-hour fasting.

Changes of assignment: As expected after our General Chapter last month, priests were re-assigned across our various apostolates. Fr James Mawdsley (who trained in the German-speaking section of our European seminary) goes to Vienna, Austria and will be succeeded in Reading by Fr Seth Phipps. We are sorry to see Fr Phipps go and we assure him – and Fr Mawdsley – of our prayers in their new assignments. Your clergy at St Mary’s remains the same, with Frs de Malleray, Loewenstein and Verrier.

ASSUMPTION of OUR LADY – Wed 15 August

A HOLYDAY of OBLIGATION.

Every able Catholic must attend Holy Mass on that day under penalty of grave sin.

Masses at St Mary’s: 6.45am; 12:10pm; 7:00pm

If you plan to travel that day, check online in advance where you will fulfil the obligation. Let us celebrate the glorious entering of our Mother in heaven!

Novena in preparation for the Assumption

From 6th to 14th Aug. included we will pray after Mass the Collect of the Assumption. Our special intention is the success of the Priory Campaign (raising £1.5m by 18 October 2018):

Almighty and Eternal God, who hast assumed the body and soul of the Immaculate Virgin Mary, Mother of Thy Son, to celestial glory: grant, we beseech Thee, that always minded toward heavenly things, we may be sharers in the same glory. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, Who livest and reignest with Thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, one God, world without end. Amen.

Congratulations to Clare Fraser who has completed her training as new Safeguarding Officer at St Mary’s Shrine. Clare is part of the Bl. James Bell Parish Safeguarding Team.

Please pray for the success of our summer camps this week (30 girls) in Macclesfield. Our 40 boys had a great time last week!

See pictures on Flickr FSSP England.

Would you like to lead a decade of the Rosary, or more, as part of our daily Shrine devotion? Please speak to Fr Phipps or email him: sphipps@fssp.org
