Fr James Mawdsley, FSSP, will lead a discussion entitled “Contraception Kills Charity”. If this connection is not obvious, there are strong warnings in Revelation. God sent Jeremiah to warn Judah and ultimately the whole world that burning one’s sons and daughters to the demons would result in wretched desolation, that joy would evaporate from the city and the voices of the bridegroom and bride would no longer be heard (Jer 7:31-34). From this we may understand that if one rejects the fruit of sexual union then marriage loses its main purpose. That is to say if a society does not value children then men and women will not find union, joy will disappear, civilisation will be reduced to a desert. If we take the theological arguments seriously, then they give context to the social, psychological and biological objections to artificial birth control.
