Missa Cantata for Sexagesima Sunday
This Sunday the 8:30am Mass at Christ the King Church in Bedford will be a Sung Mass. A beautiful recording of the chanted Introit can be heard here.
The Introit pleads with God, and who can doubt we need this prayer always: “Arise, why sleepest Thou, O Lord? arise, and cast us not off to the end. Why turnest Thou Thy face away, and forgettest our trouble? Our belly hath cleaved to the earth: arise, O Lord, help us and deliver us. Vs. (Ps. 43: 2) We have heard, O God, with our ears: our fathers have declared to us. Vs. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Arise, why sleepest Thou, O Lord? arise, and cast us not off to the end. Why turnest Thou Thy face away, and forgettest our trouble? Our belly hath cleaved to the earth: arise, O Lord, help us and deliver us.”
If you wish to practice some singing, it will be Mass XI (Orbis Factor). The Kyrie can be heard here and Credo III can be heard here. Note from Septuagesima until Easter there is no Gloria on Sundays.
