Priory Court: Last week we informally inaugurated Priory Court. Parishioners appreciated the size and good condition of the building. From now on the coffee after Mass will take place over there. The temporary ramp to the new car park will be improved soon. You may already park in the new car park on the 18 spaces RIGHT from the new access to our back garden, i.e. the rear half of the car park, further away from the Buttermarket street entrance. In due course, the floor paint for parking spaces will be upgraded.

Save Babies: Manchester City Council are consulting on a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) in the area surrounding the abortion facility in Fallowfield, Manchester. This would ban peaceful prayer vigils and the offering of help in the vicinity of the facility. We have seen over 100 women change their minds and choose life for their unborn children as a result of these vigils in Manchester. VOCATION NEWS: 11 FSSP UK PRIESTS IN 16 YEARS
We have currently six young men from England & Wales in formation at our two international seminaries. Three of our deacons from England were ordained priests at St Mary’s Warrington in the past two years by Archbishop McMahon, OP of Liverpool. Those were the first EF priestly ordinations by a diocesan bishop in England in fifty years.

In total, 45 young men were admitted into our two seminaries this autumn including 3 from England and Ireland.
We give thanks for 1 new priest from the UK ordained every year over the past 4 years, and more generally for 11 of them ordained over the past 16 years: Fr Konrad Loewenstein in 2002; Fr Brendan Gerard in 2006; Frs Matthew Goddard and William Barker in 2009; Fr Simon Harkins in 2010; Fr Matthew McCarthy in 2011; Fr Ian Verrier in 2015; Fr James Mawdsley in 2016; Frs Alex Stewart and Krzysztof Sanetra in 2017; Fr Seth Phipps last year.

Reminder on All Saints: “On Sundays and other holy days of obligation the faithful are bound to participate in the Mass.” (cf Catholic Code of Canon Law, 1247). A grave cause is needed to excuse from the obligation. In case of doubt, consult your priest in advance. Missing Holy Mass on those days without a grave cause is a mortal sin.
On All Souls’ Day (Nov. 2nd ) a plenary indulgence, applicable only to the Poor Souls in Purgatory, is granted to those who visit a Catholic church and there recite one Our Father and one Creed.
On all the days from November 1st through November 8th inclusive, a plenary indulgence, applicable only to the Poor Souls in Purgatory, is granted to those who visit a cemetery and pray even if only mentally for the departed. There must be one visit for each day one seeks to gain the indulgence; one visit will not apply for several days. Any public cemetery with Christian tombs will do. The nearest one is 5 minutes walk from St Mary’s: St Elphin’s, Church Street, WA1 2TL.
Conditions for both indulgences:
1. Only one plenary indulgence can be granted per day.
2. It is necessary to be in the state of grace, at least by completion of the work.
3. Freedom from attachment to sin, even venial sin, is necessary; otherwise the indulgence is only partial. (By this is meant attachment to a particular sin, not sin in general.)
4. Holy Communion must be received each time the indulgence is sought.
5. Prayers must be recited for the traditional intentions of the Holy Father on each day the indulgence is sought. No particular prayers are prescribed. One Our Father and one Hail Mary suffice, or other suitable prayers.
6. One must be absolved in confession the fortnight before or following.

Deo gratias for the canonisation of Cardinal John-Henry Newman in Rome on Sun. 13th Oct: may his intercession for the conversion of Britain be even more efficacious. This Sunday we are also invited by our Archbishop Malcolm McMahon to pray for the success of the Archdiocesan Synod 2020 [synod2020.co.uk], in which St Mary’s clergy and laity have been involved in various ways. His Grace’s pastoral letter is available here and at St Mary’s, as well as Synod prayer cards.
Prayer for the Pan-Amazon Synod (Rome, 6-27 October): We at St Mary’s will recite daily the Prayer to St Michael the Archangel from 29th Sept. until 27th Oct., begging for heavenly protection upon Holy Mother Church in turbulent times. We invite all to fast every Friday for the same intention during that period.
St Mary’s youths take steps:
1) Please keep in your prayer our young parishioner Henry who started formation to the priesthood at our American seminary, together with Conan from Ireland (and of Warrington) and Tom from London. Fr Verrier took them out for an ice-cream while staying in Nebraska last week and confirms that the three young men are very assiduous at Latin classes and on the ‘soccer’ pitch! 2) Also, pray for one of our young ladies who went to the Franciscan Nuns in Gosport to begin religious training. 3) Lastly, three of our young men have moved together into a shared flat to support each other through a life of piety with daily involvement in the Shrine activities. Contact us if you can give or lend furniture, utensils etc.
Sunday 20th Oct: Every year, on the Sunday following the anniversary of the establishment of the FSSP as of pontifical right the entire congregation recites together after Mass the Prayer for Vocations, prayed daily by over 6,600 members of our international prayer network for Vocations, the Confraternity of St Peter (C.S.P.). CSP members may come and recite the Prayer of the Confraternity while kneeling at the communion rail before receiving a blessing from the priest. After the example of the Sovereign High Priest Jesus Christ, today as ever, priestly sanctity is essential to the welfare of Holy Church.

Led by Fr Armand de Malleray, FSSP, the weekend is intended for any man aged 18 years or older, single or married.
The retreat will consist of conferences preached by Fr Armand, within a framework of prayer.
Holy Mass will be celebrated each day in the Extraordinary Form.
The day’s structure will include Eucharistic adoration, rosary and Latin compline and Confession.
Make use of the Theodore House Oratory or St Peter’s church for private prayer.
Enjoy the beautiful surrounding countryside with its network of footpaths.
